Our curriculum delivers a personalised, creative learning experience for all our pupils and can be defined as every thing we do and every experience the children have.
It is a carefully planned, thematic approach to teaching and learning designed to support children's natural curiosity and stimulate their creativity.
We offer and provide children the opportunity to work in depth, giving them the time they need to reflect, consolidate and transfer their learning. Independent learning alongside adult led learning has a high profile; we pay close attention to the differences between our children, planning activities to challenge and support rather than teach them as a homogenous whole.
Direct experience is placed at the centre of the curriculum so that teachers draw out and develop children's thinking and capacities in meaningful contexts. Knowledge, skills and understanding are expressed in a range of different media and ways, often making effective use of the creative arts. Children, adults and parents work with each other, drawing resources from the school, locality and wider community to create a challenging, distinctive and exciting curriculum which covers a broad range of curriculum areas: Emotional intelligence, communication, creative arts, health and wellbeing, French, religious education, science, technology, outdoor education, Physical education, history and geography and citizenship. All of these are taught to girls from the age of 3.
All our children have an entitlement to a well – resourced and rich learning environment that promotes their sense of responsibility and autonomy, helping children to become: successful learners, confident individuals, responsibly citizens and effective contributors. We plan a curriculum that reflects our community and the talents and interests of all our pupils. We believe that strong, effective relationships are at the heart of learning and our curriculum reflects our values of: Relationships, Independence, Creativity, Spirituality, Collaboration and Challenge.
The curriculum at Beaulieu has been designed to give every student the opportunity to develop her potential and talents as fully as possible, not only academically but also socially, artistically, creatively and in sport.
At the heart of the School curriculum, however is the school's concern for the moral and spiritual development of each student; every student takes Religious Studies at GCSE or an equivalent level.
It is our aim to prepare girls for higher education and to enable them to play their part as confident, effective and caring members of society. To achieve these aims every girls studies a broad common core curriculum for the first two years of Secondary School. Pupils will study Religious Studies, Science, Mathematics, French, English Language and English Literature, Geography, History, Art, Textiles, Music, Drama, ICT, Home Economics and Physical Education. In Years 7 and 8 girls study a second language being either Spanish or German. It is also possible to study Mandarin or Latin through our extra curricular language provision, which is delivered through our extended school day programme.
Towards the end of Year 8, after discussion with the Head of School, staff and parents, girls choose their subject for GCSE, which is studied over a three-year programme at Beaulieu. The GCSE common core consists of Religious Studies, single, double or triple awards in Science, Mathematics, French, Spanish or German, English Language and English Literature. Girls choose three additional subjects to study to GCSE.

All girls up to Year 11 have Mentor sessions each week covering a skills for life programme on topics such as citizenship, current affairs, study skills, personal relationships, health and hygiene and practical skills. Infused within this programme for all girls is careers guidance and all girls have access to our careers advice team who also deliver a programme of presentations and information sessions across the academic year.
At Sixth Form we provide two study pathways. One is a two year BTEC vocational route, the other is A Level, with an opportunity to follow some courses not previously offered.
For the academic course, four subjects are normally taken to AS level in the first year, often with three continued to A Level in the second year. Some students, however, complete four or even five A Level subjects.
In addition, our BTEC in Health and Social Care can be combined with an A Level.
